Geotechnical:
Slopes and Embankments

Embankments, excavations, and natural slopes need to be stable in all conditions. A reliable design must be based on the investigation, testing, and analysis of site factors such as soil or rock slope stability, settlement, deformation, erosion, sliding, toppling and groundwater.

Barr's expertise has supported major industry and government organizations for decades. We routinely use computer programs to model stress deformation and groundwater flow and to compute safety factors for potential or actual failure surfaces. Our geotechnical engineers and geologists have worked projects involving:

  • Earth dams and levees
  • Cuts and fills
  • River banks
  • Shorelines
  • Rock bluffs
  • Landslide stabilization
  • Landfills
  • Tailings impoundments

Barr's comprehensive slope-stability evaluations address aspects of sites such as drainage, compaction, vegetation, and erosion. We've dealt with soil and rock slopes under static, seismic, and other dynamic loading, with and without groundwater flow.
