Structures:
Foundations
Structural
engineering frequently provides the foundation for other engineering
and environmental projects at Barr. Our staff specializes
in investigating, analyzing, and designing foundations; we've
worked with pile foundations, spread footings, bridge piers,
lock and dam foundations, and abutments. We have experience
with both shallow and deep foundations, having designed them
for buildings, retaining walls, dams, bridges, wind turbines,
and amusement rides. We've also designed foundations for soils
that range from sands and gravels to soft, cohesive soils
and bedrock.
In
addition, Barr understands the geotechnical and structural
issues facing our clients in northern states. We're experts
in winter construction methods and the need for construction
dewatering to accommodate heavy rainfall and a high water
table. We also know that many projects involve special engineering
considerations, such as limited space and unique loading conditions.
Using
advanced software tools and numerical models, we analyze complex
foundation loadings and soil-structure interactions. This
software combines finite-element analysis methods for settlement
and seepage with limited equilibrium methods for slope stability.
