Sustainable Landscape Architecture:
Education and Interpretation
People’s
knowledge of their environment—be it urban, suburban, or rural—is
critical to creating physically and emotionally healthy places
to live. Informed citizenry will live in harmony with nature
and leave clean, healthy lands for future generations.
Barr’s landscape ecologists employ education as a component
in every design project and also as an independent service
for a variety of clients.
We have conducted seminars and produced brochures on earth-friendly
home landscaping and prairie plantings, run workshops on “lakescaping”—designing
and planting shorelines to maximize water quality and wildlife
habitat, and created detailed maps and instructions for volunteer
groups working to control invasive plant species.
We
have most recently designed signs to explain wetland restoration
and to illustrate the benefits of rainwater gardens. The interpretive
signs we design are attractive and easy to understand.
Our
natural resource inventory and management plans are written
to be accessible to laypeople as well as useful for experts.
