Water
Resources Management:
Wetland Services
Barr’s
staff of engineers, biologists, and ecologists provide a full
range of wetland services to our clients. Our wetland specialists
understand the relationships between water and soils that
provide the proper environment for wetlands. By combining
our groundwater and surface-water modeling capabilities with
our ecology and wetland habitat expertise, we can delineate,
manage, restore, mitigate, and enhance all types of wetland
environments.
Through
delineation and classification of wetlands, we can help you
avoid or minimize disruption to wetland resources. We also
develop plans to restore wetlands that have been drained,
filled, and converted to other uses.
If
your development plans cannot be modified to prevent the disruption
or loss of wetlands, Barr will work with regulatory agencies
to develop adequate mitigation measures. Often, mitigation
takes the form of restoring previously lost or damaged wetlands.
Our creative mitigation solutions have included:
- Creating new wetlands on land previously used for stockpiling
mine waste
- Restoring more than 500 acres of wetlands previously drained
and managed for wild rice production
- Restoring a 75-acre site consisting of a large drained
and mined wetland, a degraded native prairie, and two rare
plant species.
Barr
offers the following wetland services:
- Identification, delineation, characterization, and mapping
- Function and value assessments
- Wetland inventories
- Groundwater and surface-water modeling and monitoring
- Planning, protection, and management
