Barr Engineering Company Acquires
Service Engineering Group

Company has announced its acquisition of Service Engineering
Group (Service), an environmental engineering firm with offices
in St. Paul and Duluth, Minnesota.
According to Barr Vice President Dale Finnesgaard,
The engineers, scientists, and technicians at Service
bring with them expertise in sediment remediation and natural
resource damage assessments. Finnesgaard added that
the combined expertise of the two firms is expected to make
Barr a leader in these areas, especially in the Midwest.
Founded in 1993, Service is best known for
its innovative work on the complex St. Louis River/ Interlake/Duluth
Tar (SLRIDT) site. The largest contaminated sediment and NRDA
project in Minnesota, it is located along the St. Louis River
in an active industrial area in West Duluth.
The acquisition of Service also increases
staff capacity in several of Barrs other major service
areas, including brownfield redevelopment, soil and groundwater
remediation, environmental compliance and permitting, waste
minimization, mining, and expert testimony. The staff from
Service will join Barrs Minneapolis and Duluth offices.
Barr is a consulting firm providing engineering,
environmental, and information technology services to clients
in the public and private sectors, primarily in the upper
Midwest but also across the country and around the globe.
Barr has a staff of 400 and offices in Minneapolis, Duluth,
and Hibbing, Minnesota; Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Jefferson
City, Missouri.
