Summary

The person in this position will work with and manage multidiscipline project teams involving industrial related projects. Projects focus on design and analysis and include the preparation of plans and specifications, writing reports, cost estimating and construction management.

This individual will play a lead role in day-to-day client services, project management and business development within the North Dakota market. Business development activities include management of key client accounts, tracking of marketing leads and project opportunities, development of proposals and presentations, networking and working to inform clients of the full range of capabilities offered by the firm. Project management activities include responsibility for client liaison, internal team coordination, and financial performance on projects.

The work will be primarily related to industrial facilities including power plants, mining facilities, refining and fuels facilities and other heavy-industry facilities. The work may at times involve short-term out-of-town assignments.

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of industrial sites and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided for work in these areas.


Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in mechanical with academic coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described above.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certified, or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated project organization and management skills.
  • Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs.
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Barr’s vehicle use policy.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of related work experience.
  • Established network with industry personnel and industry associations.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills.
  • Engineering knowledge and experience within the power industry or industrial manufacturing processes such as petroleum refining, mining and/or minerals processing.
