Hossein is a senior hydrotechnical engineer with extensive experience in hydrotechnical field work, 1D, 2D, and 3D hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, mine water management, water balance, stream diversion design, stream restoration and rehabilitation, flood hazard and inundation mapping studies, tailings and water dam breach modelling, and coastal engineering and modelling. He has managed numerous projects involving mine water management, river and coastal hydrodynamic and dispersion modelling, flood hazard and inundation mapping studies, dam breach inundation studies, and civil design. He has been a project engineer and a project manager on several flood hazard and flood inundation mapping studies, and dam breach inundation studies. Hossein has served mining clients in oil sands, coal, and potash with various hydrotechnical analysis and design, including natural systems restoration. He has served as a key modelling specialist for 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling studies on various rivers in Western Canada for several clients, including the City of Calgary, Alberta Environment and Protected Areas, and oil and gas clients. Hossein has special research interests in effluent discharge modelling and environmental fluid mechanics in vegetated environments with application of nature-based solutions (NbS) and design.
