change to ozone NAAQS

September 2, 2011

Today President Obama issued a press release saying that although he supports protecting the environment and the health of citizens, he asked EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson to withdraw the draft Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards from further consideration. The president said he made the request as part of an effort to reduce regulatory burdens and uncertainty.

Because a new review of the science surrounding ozone, already underway, would have resulted in a reconsideration of the standard in 2013, Obama said he did not support asking state and local governments to start implementing a standard that would change in two years.
