Barr’s Ali Ling presents at water microbiome conference

October 6, 2017

In late September, environmental engineer Ali Ling (pictured below) spoke about the role of microbes in wastewater operation at the Microbe Detectives’ Microbiome Water Summit in Chicago. Ali presented the results of a study in which she linked microbial community structure to digester function. She proposed specific biological metrics to be used by wastewater engineers that will optimize operation and support a robust microbial community, which is needed to achieve performance goals—typically removal of organic material and production of methane for energy production.
