Barr’s Minneapolis, Minnesota office hosted an event on invasive aquatic species for water resource managers. The event, “Zebra Mussels and Starry Stonewort—Early Detection and Rapid Response: Current Practice and New Research,” focused on practices for the detection, response, and treatment of these aquatic species. With Barr's Karen Chandler serving as emcee, the presenters included Keegan Lund and Kylie Cattoor of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Jim Luoma of the U.S. Geological Survey, and Wes Glisson of the Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species Research Center at the University of Minnesota.

A panel discussion featuring first-hand experiences in the early detection and rapid response to these invasive species followed the presentations. Moderated by Laura Jester, administrator of the Bassett Creek Watershed Management Commission, the panel included Minnehaha Creek Watershed District ecologist Eric Fieldseth; Brian Vlach, senior manager of water resources at Three Rivers Park District, and Claire Bleser, Riley-Purgatory-Bluff Creek Watershed District administrator.
