EPA announces PFAS Action Plan

February 16, 2019

On February 14, the US Environmental Protection Agency announced its action plan for addressing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and protecting public health. The agency is moving forward with the process to establish maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) for PFOA and PFOS. It is also working toward designating PFOA and PFOS as hazardous substances under CERCLA, which will provide a regulatory framework for establishing enforcement actions. In addition, EPA is considering adding PFAS to the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI), which would add an annual reporting requirement for industrial and federal facilities that use these.
