for our work and our workplace
Barr today seems a long way from the one-man office Doug Barr opened in 1953. But Doug’s philosophies still help define how we do business, including providing an environment in which employees can do their best work. Barr has repeatedly been named as a best place to work, a best civil engineering firm to work for, and a best environmental services firm to work for by local and national publications.
We’re also proud to have worked on dozens of projects that have won awards for our clients. Recent projects that have won awards from the American Council of Engineering Consultants and Society of Professional Engineers include:
- repairs to the Trout Brook storm-sewer interceptor system in St. Paul, MN, that saved Capitol Region Watershed District nearly $13 million
- design of deep micropile wind-turbine foundations that enabled eight turbines to be built on unstable mine spoils at Iberdrola Renewables’ Casselman wind power project in Pennsylvania
- hydraulic engineering and site design for dam replacement and fish-passage creation on Spearfish Creek for the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish, and Parks
- designing and overseeing cleanup and restoration of the 255-acre St. Louis River/Interlake/Duluth Tar (SLRIDT) Superfund site in Duluth—the largest sediment-remediation project in Minnesota and winner of two engineering awards
