Summary

The person selected for this position will work with teams on projects involving environmental monitoring and problem-solving in the air-quality field. This position presents the opportunity to grow with the air emissions sampling business in one of the leading consulting firms in the upper Midwest and a firm that has been named as a “Best Engineering Firm to Work for” by the Environmental Business Journal and Civil Engineering News. Work will include conducting air-emissions sampling and data collection at industrial facilities, monitoring equipment calibration and maintenance, laboratory analysis and data reduction, and assistance with report preparation for submittal to clients and regulatory authorities. Work will include both travel to and work at client facilities and completion of responsibilities in the Minneapolis office.

    Summary

    The person selected for this position will provide tank and structural steel inspection services and related technical expertise for heavy industrial clients. The inspection team completes general condition assessments and detailed structural inspections of foundations, framing, tanks, and crane runways. They also complete general assessments of piping and utility structures. Specific tasks for this role include:

    • Assisting field staff with preparing areas for inspection, including setting up and tearing down inspection-related tools and equipment
    • Conducting visual and physical examinations of steel and concrete structures
    • Using nondestructive testing techniques and equipment to locate and define deficiencies
    • Preparing field sketches to show locations of deficiencies
    • Creating repair detail drawings
    • Compiling field data, sketches, and repairs into a formal report

    Barr Engineering is seeking a wastewater engineer to join its Minneapolis office and undertake challenging and progressive work focused on water and wastewater treatment facilities for industrial and municipal clients.
