Summary

The person in this position will work on multidisciplinary project teams providing mechanical engineering and related expertise. Project assignments may include managing a multidisciplinary project team, preparing design drawings and specifications, writing technical reports, preparing sketches, developing details of designs, and preparing cost estimates. These activities will be primarily related to the design and construction of petrochemical piping projects. Other work may include industrial processing facilities, power plants, refineries, and other heavy industrial facilities. The work may at times involve short-term, out-of-town assignments.

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of industrial sites and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided.


Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in mechanical engineering with academic coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described above
  • At least 5 years of related experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial organization
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certified, or ability to obtain within one year
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to cooperate in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative
  • Demonstrated project organization and management skills
  • Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Barr’s vehicle use policy


Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of related work experience
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office software, or 3D modeling software
  • Background/experience working on the design of crude oil and natural gas piping projects
