Novita developed, constructed, and operated a first-of-its-kind plant to extract corn oil from dried distillers’ grains with solubles (DDGS—a co-product of the corn ethanol industry).
Because we had experience preparing complex air-quality-permit applications, a well-established relationship with Novita’s founders from work on ethanol projects, and a strong working relationship with the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Novita selected Barr to help secure pre-construction and operating permits for the plant.
As part of helping the company apply for and obtain permits regulating air quality (PSD), we conducted air dispersion modeling and BACT and MACT evaluations of emission control technologies. We also prepared applications for water rights and water discharge, an SPCC plan and a SWPPP, and developed compliance tracking tools to help the plant meet permit conditions and regulatory requirements.
Since the plant began production in spring 2017, Barr has performed stack testing to characterize emissions.
