review process helps determine best path to environmental compliance and permit approval

Barr has provided a contracted employee and support team to assist Michigan Gas Utilities (MGU), a WEC Energy Group subsidiary, with day-to-day environmental compliance activities for natural gas distribution projects in southern Michigan. To date, we have worked on over 50 MGU projects in seven counties.

We assisted with independent coordination of environmental reviews using online databases and tools to assess impacts to wetlands, waterbodies, floodplains, protected species, and other environmentally sensitive features. Our team interpreted environmental regulations, assessed permit requirements and exemptions, and advised MGU on scope alternatives to mitigate risks. This helped determine the best path to environmental compliance and assisted MGU in procuring permits. We conducted site visits as needed, including wetland determinations and delineations, habitat surveys for protected species, and soil erosion inspections.
