For immediate release
MINNEAPOLIS, MN—Barr Engineering Co. (Barr), an employee-owned engineering and environmental consulting firm that provides comprehensive solutions to clients in a range of industries, today announced plans to relocate its headquarters office to One Meridian Crossings in Richfield, Minn., in late 2026.
Barr’s new location supports the company’s vision for a future-state office environment tailored to the needs and preferences of employees, clients, partner organizations, and visiting staff from 16 offices.
“Hybrid work has changed how we approach the use of our offices, in the Minneapolis area and across North America,” said Barr’s chief operating officer, Nick Nelson. “Many employees do not need to come into the office daily, but our office environments still play a central role in sustaining our company culture and providing an inviting space for clients. We aim to foster exceptional client service, innovation, and collaboration, and we’re confident our new space will support this objective.”
Barr serves clients in the fuels, manufacturing, mining, power, and public sectors, providing integrated engineering and environmental solutions that address complex needs in areas such as engineering and design, environmental compliance and remediation, sustainability and resiliency, and water management. Incorporated in Minnesota in 1966, Barr has offices across North America and client projects around the globe. Approximately half of the growing company’s 1,100 employees are based in the Twin Cities. For its headquarters search, Barr committed to staying in the southwest Minneapolis metro commercial market, where it has been located for decades.
Employee input and preferences factored heavily in the company’s decision-making process for the move. In internal surveys and discussions, Barr employees cited access to on-site and walkable amenities, a commuter-friendly location, natural lighting, and a modern, vibrant atmosphere as top needs.
“Our highly engaged workforce includes engineers, scientists, and other technical and professional employees who work together to take on our clients’ toughest challenges and help them achieve their goals,” said Nelson. “It’s exciting for us to create a welcoming office environment that provides inviting spaces for collaboration and independent work, bringing out the best in our teams and optimizing outcomes for our clients.”
Barr was represented in the lease negotiations by Newmark Vice Chairman Jim Damiani and Director Teresa Borgen.
“Barr approached this search with a clear focus on aligning its workplace strategy with the evolving needs of its employees and clients,” said Damiani. “One Meridian Crossings checked all the boxes—offering flexibility, access to amenities, strong walkability, and a location that supports long-term growth.”
