Dakota County Parks

framework guides natural resource management decisions

Barr worked on the team that created master plans for three Dakota County parks—Miesville Ravine Park Reserve, Thompson Park, and Lake Byllesby Regional Park. Our contribution included designs to encourage park use without jeopardizing the quality of the natural resources, descriptions of the natural history of the area, an analysis of the vegetative cover quality, water quality assessments of lakes and rivers within the parks, and stewardship recommendations.

Our user-friendly manual for decision making helps Dakota County’s staff manage degraded areas and invasive plant species. The manual also enables them to prioritize their work across the three parks and make informed decisions about maintenance and programming. In addition, we encouraged the park managers to direct resources to protecting high-quality plant communities by creating buffers zones around them.
