evaluation of landscape maintenance practices

evaluation of landscape maintenance practices
Hennepin County

site-specific tools reduce environmental impacts

Hennepin County hired Barr to analyze the condition of urban and suburban landscapes at 19 county facilities with the goal of identifying ecologically friendly practices to reduce maintenance.

We assessed existing maintenance practices and the health and vigor of the landscape at each location and created a low-impact landscape maintenance plan for each site. Each plan identified areas that needed attention and suggested maintenance alternatives to reduce negative impacts from traditional landscape practices.

Each site-specific manual included an outline of areas needing special maintenance, a schedule for seasonal maintenance, cost projections for proposed maintenance, pruning and planting fact sheets, maintenance procedures for plantings, and guidelines to help reduce mowing, chemical use, labor, and maintenance costs.
