environmental review and permitting for windfarm repowering

environmental review and permitting for windfarm repowering
Avangrid Renewables, LLC
southwestern Minnesota

Trimont Wind I, a subsidiary of Avangrid Renewables, operates an existing 100.5 MW wind-energy generation facility in Martin and Jackson counties, Minnesota. The company proposed upgrading turbines to increase their efficiency, reliability, and energy output and to prolong the useful life of the windfarm.

The project required Minnesota’s first site-permit amendment for partial repowering of a wind facility. Working with the Minnesota Department of Commerce and Public Utilities Commission, Barr helped Avangrid prepare an application to increase the rotor diameter, output, and nameplate capacity. We also conducted a search for threatened and endangered species and provided support at public hearings.

The PUC granted Avangrid a permit amendment in May 2018; repowering is now underway.
