giving navigational structures a design and safety facelift

Originally constructed between 1870 and 1910, navigation structures at Two Rivers Harbor on Lake Michigan and Superior Entry on Lake Superior were in need of repairs and upgrades.

At the Superior Entry south revetment, Barr inspected the project and evaluated options for rehabilitating deteriorating components and upgrading adjacent features. The project design was complicated by existing structures and utilities, requiring careful layout and design to fit the new design features into the site without disrupting remaining buildings and features.

For the Two Rivers Harbor south pier and revetment, we conducted an inspection and geotechnical investigation, evaluated design options, and developed a detailed design. Once an option was selected, our team worked to reduce construction costs by retaining existing structural components wherever practical.

Both projects have provided safer access for operations staff, harbor traffic, and the public.
